Meet EOY Goals

I led professional development and guided colleagues so that they were able to produce two product deliverables that utilized gamification principles.

A scene from a Mario video game with Bowser facing off against small Mario characters. Bowser is large, with orange hair, green shell with spikes, and yellow skin. The background shows a dark, stormy sky over a castle tower.

Gee thinks that video games that are good for learning offer a problem that challenges students’ assumed expertise.

Learn Principles

Using ASU Professor James Paul Gee’s approach, we analyzed some of his principles in various gaming contexts and ideated about how to extend the principles into our our own courses.

Gamification Resources
A diagram titled 'Is this Game Good for Learning?' with a linear progression from 'Good for Understanding' to 'Great Problems' to 'Transformative'. It explains learning stages: understanding content, problem-solving involving complex problems, and active learner engagement.

Evaluate

To better develop gamification practices among the core content team, we played an exemplar game in teams to identify and critique Gee’s principles in action. We have since then created new team channels and identified areas for future PD development.
