Using this model for collaborative annotation, learners are afforded multiple literacies including digital media to develop an understanding. By integrating aspects of universal design, the user is able to make sense of their environment in a meaningful way. The cognitive practice is situated in explicit text, thus rendering an opportunity for the apprenticeship model, and lastly expert knowledge, within the discipline, is carefully scaffolded to both build on the apprenticeship model, and to encourage the “doing” and “thinking” of a real-life discipline.
Using an Affordances and Constraints Model
When evaluating new or old literacies, it is key to identify the constraints or limitations as well as the affordances or clues about how the literacy might be extended, enhanced or engaged through iterative design-based research.
